Carole Baijings
Carole Baijings is a leading Dutch industrial designer and former co-founder of Scholten & Baijings. Known for her precise use of color, pattern, and detail,
she works across ceramics, glassware, textiles, and furniture,
and has collaborated with brands such as IKEA, Samsung, HAY, and Herman Miller.
Her work has been shown in major museums including the V&A and the Rijksmuseum.
Color is at the heart of her design, bringing depth through transparency, layering, and structure.

The Miru collection by Carole Baijings for Ciqi
Miru means to see, observe, look after, view, and take care of,
and that idea shaped this collection from the beginning.
I wanted to create eyewear that doesn’t just help you see the world differently,
but also changes the way you observe the object itself.
Each frame in the collection, from the Robyn sunglasses to the Sui reading glasses, is built from layered materials:
a translucent top structure surrounding the coloured metal frame. As the two interact, the colours of glasses and lenses shift and glow,
creating unique tones that reveal themselves differently depending on the light, the wearer, and the moment.
The Japanese braided cord is designed for the same reason.
It ensures the glasses stay close and cared for, a small gesture that carries the spirit of Miru into daily life.
Working with Ciqi allowed for a shared appreciation of precision,
clarity, and craft. Every detail has been carefully considered so that the collection
not only looks after you but invites you to look more closely.
